SK Gaming - The Journey
We were commissioned by Amazon Prime Video to produce a feature length documentary, following the high and lows of E Sports gaming team, SK Gaming. We uncovered the team members backgrounds, shooting in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Hollywood, New Port Beach, Downtown LA and Beverly Hills. The production spanned a total of 3 weeks filming time, in which we grew to know the team and their friends and family to a close level. The documentary was produced to show the levels in which E Sports has grown, with multi million dollar prize purses and sold out stadiums.
It was important for this feature length documentary to draw you into the world in which the players lived. The stark contrast between the cold gaming world or competition, contrasted strongly against the sun kissed, glamorous streets of LA and Hollywood. The colour grade was a key role in bringing life to the look of the documentary. We opted for a harsh, cool look to the stadium and gaming footage - emphasised by the lighting often in the matches and the colour palette of the game. We wanted to overly saturate and ‘sun kiss’ the rest of the external, LA based footage. Almost like the feeling you would get when leaving the computer and heading outside. The documentary was intentionally shot mostly in golden hour to again add to the teal and orange, complimentary colour palette.
