Santa Cruz - A Day Away From Reality

We headed deep into the woodland and got amongst the muddy trails to shoot this mountain bike focussed documentary. The documentaries main narrative was to show the beauty and serenity that can be found out in the wilderness, with just yourself, a bike and peace of mind. We follow our main character as he explains what mountain biking means to him - and why he spends his weekends and evenings churning the mud. The documentary was shot in partnership with Santa Cruz - a high end mountain bike manufacturer.

The aesthetic and general look and feel we wanted within this documentary was ‘early mornings, failing light and earthy tones’. Put those together and you get rich oranges from heather and skin tones, perfectly complimented with cool, steely blue shadows - just like early morning like or blue hour. This look helped us focus the viewer on our cyclist and separated him from the background. The documentary was shot multi cam with DJI drone work involved sparingly to add scale to the piece and allow an ‘overview effect’ of our character In such an ever expanding woodland.
